Hi! I'm Kathryn Brunner! As an early childhood music educator, I am passionate about child development and music literacy. Since 2005, I have had the privilege of leading over one thousand young children in joyful musical play in my own piano and Musikgarten studio, church and community.
I'm on a mission to help parents and children enjoy making music together. The benefits are endless! Neurological networking. Attention skills. Motor development. Coordination. Balance. Impulse control. Language skills. Affectionate bonding with you and so much more!
At Musik at Home (mymusikathome.com) I offer Musikgarten's developmentally sequenced classes online by way of video to help you savor precious musical moments and give your child a solid foundation on the path to music literacy! In my classes, I come alongside parents like you to help you incorporate music into every day life with your little one.
Musik at Home is a totally avante garde way of doing music class designed for busy parents of babies, toddlers and preschoolers. We all know the drill. We have dreams and aspirations for our little ones, but life moves so quickly, it’s hard to reach them all. Musik at Home makes it easier than ever for you to give your little one total exposure to the building blocks of music with dancing, singing, bouncing, swinging, jumping, story-telling while connecting with you!
Research shows that it absolutely essential to capture a child's music aptitude while it is at its height from birth to age 9. After age 9, it begins to rapidly decline. You may remember how hard it was to learn a language in high school or college? This is why. Our brains are shaped for learning language early -- the same way we are shaped for learning music early – sound before sight. Children who learn another language at an early age are much more likely to become fluent when they are older. The same is true for fluency in music.
When it comes to music classes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers, I've seen the astounding life changing benefits music brings -- both in my own children and in the countless children I've taught. At Musik at Home, my heartfelt goal is to pair quality instruction with intentional parent-child interaction in order to build your child's solid foundation for skillful musicianship.
Since earning my license and certification as a Musikgarten Instructor in 2005, I’ve enjoyed teaching every level of Musikgarten’s curriculum including: Family Music for Babies, Family Music for Toddlers, Cycle of Seasons Preschool Music, God’s Children Sing, Music Makers at Home, Music Makers Around the World at the Keyboard, and Music Makers at the Keyboard. I’ve done birthday parties, special community events, and enjoyed being the MOPPETS music teacher for our local MOPS program for several years. I am also certified to teach early childhood music by the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association (ECMMA). Working with young children is a privilege and delight!
Since 2001, my piano studio in Vienna, Va has provided aspiring pianists a place to grow from beginning to advanced skill levels. Some of my graduating piano students have been accepted into the Berklee School of music, UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, one has become a signed pop/country artist, several are leading worship for their churches or college campuses and others have gone on to enjoy music as a lifelong pursuit and pleasure (www.kathrynbrunner.com).
I’ve also had the opportunity to work as a singer/songwriter and recording artist with a Nashville producer. My music has been published worldwide, placing in the top 10 on international song charts for my 2014 release "Holding On to Hope" and successfully crowdfunding my Christmas album "Born This Day" in 2012 with the help of amazing friends and fans.
In my spare time, I love making up songs with my girls at stop lights, throwing down a spontaneous dance party in the kitchen after dinner, and singing just for the fun of it anytime, anywhere.
It is possible to make music more a part of life. The developmental benefits are boundless for little ones!
I’d be honored to have you join me on this journey at Musik at Home!
