Patsy was a third generation Japanese American, the first woman of color elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, and the first Asian-American woman to serve in Congress. She knew she wanted to serve in the goverment from the moment her home state of Hawaii was admitted as a state. She faced many obstacles due to her race and being a mom but perserved through all of them, serving our country for a total of 12 terms.
