Treats & Noms
Happy Tart, Owner-Emma Cech. This is a must if you are gluten free for dietary reasons AND a must if you aren't. Emma's creations are tasty and beautiful. I love sitting in the shop with a good book and a Café Ole. My fave menu item? The Calvados Crepes. On a personal note, Emma hires really well. A lot of her employees are actors (and they are funny!) in the local arts community which warms my heart as a fellow performer. We ordered our pies and rolls for Thanksgiving from Happy Tart this year and they were wonderful!
Doughnuttery, Owners- Leyla Khater and Katherine Ronckovitz*^. Here's an idea...let's take the beloved donut and turn it into a mini version and sell it out of a kiosk in the mall. 100 percent genius. They have 25 flavors, sprinkles, and dipping sauces. My family of five approves. Bonus? These boss moms also own Tropical Smoothie Café in Alexandria!
Innerloop Coffee, Owners- Megan & Gregory*. This is a new one for me! Their coffee holiday gift box is the cutest gift idea for the teachers or first responders in your life. (We are gifting to our fave postal worker!) I really enjoy the Costa Rica blend!
Borek-G Home Cooking, Owners- Dilek and Huseyin Kaygusuz *^ This popular farmer's market duo decided to open a store front in Falls Church to offer their Turkish treats to a bigger market. You must visit! Everything is homemade and you can taste the love. The store carries Turkish grocery items in addition to serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Stylish Patina, Owner- Kelly Millspaugh*. I am lucky enough to call Kelly a friend and have loved collaborating with her on projects and events over the years. When we went to tour our historic home with our agent, Kelly and her family were actually walking out as we were walking in! Thankfully, she didn't place an offer, but she's loved helping me furnish and design it every step of the way! I can't tell you one fave thing I have in her shop because I love everything! Kelly is also a realtor and a soon to be mom of FIVE. (So give her a high five next time you see her)
Nova Wreaths, Owner- Lauren Cleary*. When I started favoriting wreaths on ETSY and realized Lauren was local, I asked if I could do a pick-up to save on shipping. We then realized we lived really close to each other and that we were both moms. Then, in an even weirder twist, Lauren offered to drop the wreaths off at my house on her way to swim lessons. Her swim lessons? At the same time and place as me. We will now coordinate pickups at swim classes :) Lauren is very busy making wreaths and it may be too late to get one in time for the holidays, but plan to order one for next year!
Falls Church Candle Company, Owner- Chase*- I love reusing and recycling. I will wash every tub, jar, and soap bottle to either reuse or recycle. My spices are kept in old spaghetti sauce jars! I also LOVE candles (much to my husband's chagrin). So when I found someone who combined those two things I was like SIGN ME UP!
Bambi Granger Studio, Owner- Bambi Granger*. Bambi keeps popping up in my social feeds and our instructor Madeline let me know that she must be included on our shop local list! I absolutely love her hand sized framed art pieces. Perfect stocking stuffer or gift for mom!
Galleria Florist, Owner- Alisa Rabinovich This lovely Falls Church Floral Shop moved locations this year to Broad St and I watched them turn the small empty space into a delightful floral filled heaven. Check them out for all your fresh flower needs, including DIY classes!
Babies and Kids
Lemonlane Consignment, Owner- Erin Messner* Probably fifty percent of my girl's wardrobes come from Lemonlane. When Erin first opened her shop in a now torn down storefront on Broad St, I crossed my fingers she would stay open and succeed because I really wanted to be able to shop for kid's clothes close to home. As an avid consigner and lover of reusing all things, Lemon Lane allows me to instill that love in my girls as well.
NuNu's Arts & Crafts, Owner- Mona Moumen*^ Mona is a longtime client and mom of three kids! She turned her love of crafting into the most adorable craft boxes for kids. We absolutely LOVE the handmade dolls that come in the boxes!
Toy Nest, Owner- Lisa Bourven* Gone are the days of the kids screaming "Mom I'm bored!" and the endless piles of toys cluttering the living room. Toy Nest is like Rent the Runway but for toys!!! Eco friendly at it's best. Lisa also offers fun playdates in the shop.
Tea With Mrs. B, Owner- Rebecca Czarniecki* Camps and Manners. Something all kids loves and all kids need. :) Rebecca's fun and whimsical style is what I love best about her.
Twingo Carrier, Owner- Krystal Workman* Krystal created the idea of her baby carrier after realizing how important skin to skin was in the NICU with her twins. I have not used the carrier, but every twin mom I know swears by it! It can also be adapted to use for two children of different sizes/ages, and for single use.
Usborne Books, Consultant- Barb Rosecrans* Barb is the mama of one of our Stroller Strides moms. I have loved Usborne books for years, and now that we are homeschooling, our library is bursting at the seams with even more of them! We love the abridged versions of the classics and the wipe clean activity books for smaller ones on road trips.
Joylife Spa, Owner- Roshelle Veney^ I recently met Roshelle though our local Chamber of Commerce. Her brand new spa located in Falls Church has a super zen feel and her bubbly personality is exactly what I look for in a massage provider. I have added her services to my own wish list for the holidays!
Kess Salon, Owner- Rovina Nugara*^ I could write 12 blog posts about how much I love Kess Salon. Everytime I walk in I feel like family! Rovina is the primary owner, but she runs the salon with her brother and sister, who all immigrated to the US from Sri Lanka. I absolutely love their attention to detail and how fun they are. One time when I was in for a color, I had to pick my kids up and Royston wrapped my head, put a plastic bag over my torso so I wouldn't drip, and told me to go get my kids and come back. Now my kids think they can always go when I get my hair done!
Comfort First Dental, Owner- Miata Jones*^ I hate the dentist but I LOVE Dr. Jones. I originally scheduled with her because I was told she offered Nitrous, which I have often needed due to extreme dentist anxiety. Thankfully, I haven't needed it once. Dr. Jones is warm and gentle and doesn't make me feel bad when I forget to floss (which is a lot). I have her to thank for my beautiful smile because she did my invisalign a couple of years ago. Bonus? She offers same day appointments and online booking!
Elodie's Naturals, Owner- Elodie* I have not actually used Elodie's products, but enough of you have recommended them to me that I am including her in our shop local guide. I can't wait to gift and receive them for Christmas! Carmel Lip Balm?! Sign me up for 12!
Greenlist by 3girlstech, Owner- Jess Owens* Greenlist hasn't officially launched yet, but when they do, I think the fashion retail industry will be changed for the better. The concept will allow you to buy returns at a discount before they become a return. It's green fashion at it's finest.
Scout and Molly's, Owner-Teresa Snedeker* Hands down one my fave dresses ever came from Lisa's store in Mosaic District. I love that they don't keep a huge inventory so it truly has a boutique feel. Lisa and her staff will let you stay and try on as much as you like and give honest feedback on everything you do. I mean, what shop owner tells you when something doesn't look? I LOVE that! Scout and Molly's is actually franchised and the owner is a woman too!
New to You Boutique, Owner- Christina Novak. When I grow up I want to be Christina. I absolutely adore her second hand clothing store on Broad St in Falls Church. I love fashion almost as much as I love FIT4MOM and finding brand name, often vintage!, pieces that are in mint condition makes my heart swoon. One time I found a vintage Halston dress after walking in on a whim and knew it had to come with me. Her inventory changes frequently, so make sure to stop by!
